I finally figured out what to do with the civil war reproduction fabrics that I had a brief kick on about 3 years ago – I wasn’t sewing much as I had a newborn who didn’t sleep. But I would drag her to the quilt store and engage in some retail therapy and buy half yards of these civil war reproductions. They are pretty of course, but a little out of character for me. But then I got a little inspired by the 100-patch block quilt in QuiltMania #103.
Who is counting? I wanted my blocks slightly larger but with tiny squares, so I am making my 144-piece blocks by cutting 1 1/2″ strips, 6 in each color. Make a strip set, cut it into 1 1/2″ sections, turn half of them around and put together your block. Super easy, and totally zen. I think the hardest part is pressing the block to shape after you assemble it.
I will keep you posted as this baby grows. (Off to pack for quilt market now)
