Have you ever wanted to make a giant Dresden Plate?
A couple of years ago I made big floor pillow using the big 15-degree wedge ruler form Creative Grids. Then I came across another giant pin-wheel Kathy Doughty’s book Adding Layers. She made one giant Dresden plate resting on a huge background. I really love how she used the madonna fabric from Alexander Henry and I like her bright red heart in the middle.
I had bought the same Madonna fabric and had several yards of it stuffed in a shelf of “difficult” fabrics so her quilt gave me a cool idea for how to use it.
However Kathy’s quilt was a little too simple and had too much negative space for my liking so I am making a queen size quilt with four giant wheels – 41″ in diameter each. In addition to the red heart in the middle of each circle, I am also appliquéing them in the spaces between the wheels.
I will share again as I make more progress on this project.
