Finished Quilt Top: The Grunge Quilt

by | Sep 5, 2015

Can a quilt be grungy?

I think this one is, or maybe it is just a little edgy. I am so stinking pleased with this. It is so easy to make pretty. But this quilt is new to me.

DetailIt really started off with a couple of rolls of Kokka precut 2.75″ strips that I purchased (very cheaply) at sample spree at spring quilt market in Minneapolis. I had this GORGEOUS and dark panel from Cloud9’s Biology line that I wanted to use but didn’t have the heart to cut into tiny pieces.

So here is what I did. I fuzzy-cut 9″ squares from the Biology panel. Then I made giant log cabin blocks with the Kokka strips and supplemented with some  awesome Cotton&Steel, more of the Biology Collection, and some OLD green fabrics from my stash that I had almost given up on.

This quilt top is large: I think it ended up about 105×105 because I want it to be a bed quilt to actually make love under (sounds nice, doesn’t it?)

The extra cool thing about this quilt is that it was SOOO fast and easy. I didn’t measure anything after the initial cutting and I made the blocks over a period of 5 days in small bursts between everything else I am supposed to do. Very Satisfying!
