It was a result of me wanting to learn to piece 60-degree triangles. I thought it would be difficult, but it really isn’t. I used the absolutely fantastic 60-degree triangle ruler from Creative Grids which made it super easy.

- [The Perfect Red Fabric](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/the-perfect-red-fabric/): For the last couple of years I have had a favorite fabric.  It is Cotton Couture “Cherry” from Michael Miller. It is the PERFECT color of red. Not rusty, not orangy,not brownish, not bluish. It is a true fire-engine/Scandinavian Christmas red. I want to use it for everything, but the worst obsession is bindings. It adds an unexpected happy-pop to almost everything. I also want to make it as the background color in some modern quilts that exist in my head.

- [144-patch Postage-Stamp with Civil War Reproductions](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/144-patch-postage-stamp-with-civil-war-reproductions/): I finally figured out what to do with the civil war reproduction fabrics that I had a brief kick on about 3 years ago – I wasn’t sewing much as I had a newborn who didn’t sleep. But I would drag her to the quilt store and engage in some retail therapy and buy half yards of these civil war reproductions. They are pretty of course, but a little out of character for me. But then I got a little inspired by the 100-patch block quilt in QuiltMania #103.
- [Hummingbirds on my Cucumbers](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/hummingbirds-on-my-cucumbers/): Sometimes little things just make my whole day a super-happy one. This weekend I dried oregano, thyme, and lovage from the garden for my spice cabinet. While I was out there, two hummingbirds came and argued about who gets user rights to my cucumbers. I ran and got my camera and caught this one. My husband had borrowed most of my lenses so this one was actually taken with my 80mm Nikon macro lens which was the only one I had at hand which wasn’t a wide angle.
- [Fast & Fun with Layer Cakes](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/fast-fun-with-layer-cakes/): Monday I had a deadline for a first draft with my publisher and I spend the last 10 days intensely hunched over hand appliqué and stitchery. It is fun, but slow. By Monday morning I had sewn so much all my fingers were raw and I had planned to take a day or two off, get a massage, do some yoga, get a pedicure, and generally glue myself back together. But then I had this intense urge to make something large and fast and easy and I did something I have NEVER done before. I bought a layer cake and slashed and sewed it into a quilt top in one afternoon. It was pretty frantic, but if felt so good! (And neither yoga, nor pedicure happened.) I chose Rashida Coleman-Hale‘s Mochi collection from Cotton and Steel. The layer cake didn’t have quite enough fabrics for me to get a quilt top out of it so I supplemented with some of my traditional Japanese fabrics and one of my favorite tartans that I bought in Glasgow a few years ago. The result makes me smile. A super easy, color-happy quilt top where the fabric gets to pull all the weight. How very therapeutic!

Kathy and I had fun picking out some fabrics from my stash to start the project with, but after the workshop I was hospitalized and the project got put away among all the other unfishished stuff that was piling up in my studio.

- [Reproduction Sampler Workshop](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/reproduction-sampler-workshop/): I am finally getting over the cruddy head-cold and the 9-hour jet lag from flying back from Norway a couple of days ago. The flight back, with a squirmy 3-year old, and me completely congested and unable to get my ears to pop, sucked – there is no other way to describe it.  However, it was totally worth it since I got to spend lots of nice time with my family and watch Maya charm her grandparents into submission.
- [Norwegian Winter Beauty](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/norwegian-winter-beauty/): This past weekend I was teaching my reproduction sampler workshop for a local craft guild in Royken, Norway. The guild utilizes a house at the old rectory farm with nice views of the surrounding woods and countryside. Since I arrived early, and had the macro-lens on my camera, I passed the time taking some detail shots of the cold morning landscape around me. I love looking at all the details of the winter.
- [“Not Like the Others”](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/not-like-the-others/): I had such a blast designing, appliquéing, and quilting this quilt with Michael Miller Cotton Couture. It went off to quiltCon yesterday, but I managed to take a few pictures in the few hours of early dawn before rushing it off. Maya was extremely helpful in standing sort of still for about 2 seconds for me to take a picture or two with her and the quilt. Then my neighbor, Wendy, came to my rescue and held it up for me so I could get a flat shot.

- [Jaelyn’s Stocking](https://www.feliciasworld.com/blog/jaelyns-stocking/): I am sooooo far behind on all quilting and craft projects this year because of all the issues with my foot. Five surgeries and a week in hospital….But I am finally starting to  become mobile again and last week I finished Jaelyn’s Christmas stocking. Now 3 out of the 4 stockings in the Birds of a Feather series are done. Unfortunately, the patterns are out of print but if you like these I would look on Ebay, Etsy, and online cross stitch shops who may have copies in stock still.
