For the last three years, we have hosted a gingerbread baking party before Christmas.

We invite our friends with young children and strip down our kitchen and den enough to accommodate  ten or so messy minor and their not so messy parents for an afternoon of baking and snacking together.

It always ends up such a success and everybody leaves with large tins of gingerbread cookies. These gems are the traditional Norwegian kind. The recipe actually calls for black pepper, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. In Norway they are called “pepper cakes” and they are a staple for baking with kids.

Enjoy the pictures.
